How much does a deck cost in Middle Tennessee?

How long does it take to build a deck?
Most decks take one to two weeks from permit approval to final walk-through. Larger or elevated decks can take two to three weeks. We do not start until materials are on-site so there are no mid-project delays.
Pressure-treated or composite — which should I choose?
Pressure-treated costs less upfront and takes stain well. Composite costs more but requires almost no maintenance and lasts 25–30 years. We walk you through the tradeoffs based on your budget and how much upkeep you want.
Does my HOA need to approve my deck?
Many HOA communities in Middle Tennessee require architectural review approval before construction. We can provide drawings and spec sheets to support your submission, but the approval process is between you and your HOA.
How do you handle the ledger connection to the house?
We use proper ledger hardware and through-bolts, and we flash above the ledger to prevent water intrusion. This is the most common failure point on decks — we do it right every time.
What are the railing and baluster requirements for a deck in Tennessee?
Any deck 30 inches or more above grade is required to have a railing. Railing height must be at least 36 inches for decks under 6 feet high, and 42 inches for decks higher than that. Balusters must be spaced no more than 4 inches apart so a 4-inch sphere cannot pass through — this is a child safety requirement built into residential code. We build every railing to meet these standards.
Do I need to call 811 before building a deck?
Yes — Tennessee law requires you to call 811 before any digging. We handle this as part of every project. Utility locates are marked before we dig a single footer hole.
What load does a deck have to be built to?
Residential decks in Tennessee are required to support a minimum of 40 pounds per square foot of live load. This accounts for people, furniture, and typical deck use. We engineer our framing and footers to meet or exceed this standard on every build.
