How much does fence installation cost in Middle Tennessee?
A wood privacy fence typically runs $18–$28 per linear foot installed. A 150-foot backyard fence comes in around $2,700–$4,200. Cedar costs a bit more than pine. Vinyl runs higher. We give you a written per-linear-foot quote after seeing the yard.
How long does fence installation take?
Most residential fences take two to four days. A large property or complex layout may take a week. We pull the material together before scheduling so your project does not sit half-finished.
Cedar vs. pressure-treated — what is the difference?
Cedar looks better, ages naturally, and does not require staining to stay healthy. Pressure-treated is more resistant to ground contact rot and costs a bit less. For pickets we recommend cedar. For posts we always use pressure-treated.
Do you handle HOA approval?
We can provide drawings, material specs, and measurements to support your HOA submission. The approval itself is between you and your HOA — we build to whatever specs they require.
How deep do you set the posts?
We set posts at least one-third of the total post length in concrete, always below the frost line. Middle Tennessee frost depth is around 12 inches — we go to 24 inches or deeper.
Which side of the fence should face my neighbor?
The finished side — the smooth, flat face of the fence — should face outward toward your neighbor and the street. The structural side with the posts and horizontal rails faces inward toward your property. This is the standard in Middle Tennessee and is required by many HOAs. It is also the right way to build — your neighbor gets the clean look, and you retain access to the structure for maintenance.
How close to my property line can I build a fence?
Most municipalities in Middle Tennessee allow fences to be built right on or within a few inches of the property line, but local ordinances vary. Some areas require a small setback. We recommend having your property lines clearly identified before we start. We check local requirements for every project.
Are there height limits for fences in Middle Tennessee?
Yes. Most residential areas in Middle Tennessee limit backyard fences to 6 feet in height and front yard fences to 4 feet. Some municipalities or HOAs have stricter rules. Fences taller than the standard limit typically require a variance or special approval. We verify height restrictions before any project begins.
Do I need to call 811 before installing a fence?
Yes. Tennessee law requires a 811 utility locate call before any digging. We handle this on every project before we set a single post.
